Sui has reported peak throughput of 40.6 million transactions per second in a live offchain test involving more than 10,000 tunnels, exceeding its July result of about 6.1 million TPS.

    Summary

    • 40,614,180 TPS was recorded in offchain tunnels during the live demonstration at Sui Basecamp in Singapore.
    • More than 10,000 tunnels supported payments, games, and chat activity, according to Sui.
    • CertiK served as independent auditor, with a detailed review of the test data still pending.
    • Sui’s previous AI payments work includes a partnership with Google’s Agentic Payments Protocol.

Sui Foundation said the Oct. 7 demonstration tested infrastructure for rapid interactions between AI agents, with transactions taking place inside programmable channels that settle to Sui mainnet when closed. sui.io

According to the foundation, the result exceeded a 20 million TPS target set for the event. The demonstration took place at Sui Basecamp in Singapore, where Mysten Labs co-founder and chief product officer Adeniyi Abiodun led the test.

Sui’s 40.6 million TPS result measures offchain activity

In its account of the demonstration, the foundation identified payments, games, and chat applications as the categories used to generate activity. More than 10,000 tunnels were opened on mainnet, while the interactions within them ran offchain.

Under the design described by Sui, a tunnel needs an onchain transaction to open and another to close. Activity between those steps stays within the channel, allowing participants to carry out repeated interactions without submitting each one separately to the blockchain.

The foundation said closed tunnels are cosigned by participants and can be independently checked onchain. Its description places the high-frequency activity within the tunnels, with the blockchain handling their opening and final settlement.

For comparison, Sui’s earlier July test reached about 6.1 million TPS using the same type of offchain channel. The foundation said the tunnels were introduced during that demonstration and are programmable, allowing builders to create applications beyond simple transfers.

AI agent payments build on Sui’s Google partnership

Explaining the intended use, Abiodun described Sui as infrastructure for “millions of AI agents” making transactions every day.

    He said:

“No market in the world needs 6 million transactions per second, let alone 40 million: people just don’t move that fast. Agents do.”

Abiodun’s comments tie the capacity test to automated activity, including interactions that software agents can carry out at a pace beyond human trading or payment activity.

As crypto.news reported in September 2025, Sui became a launch partner for Google’s Agentic Payments Protocol, an open-source standard for AI agents to make payments on users’ behalf.

According to Mysten Labs’ announcement at the time, Sui’s role involved supplying programmable payment infrastructure for autonomous agents. The company identified paywall access and automated purchases among the uses for that infrastructure.

The September report also described tools for content access and licensing, with creators able to control how their work is used and receive payments through programmed rules. For users dealing with AI agents, the report identified cryptographic identifiers and context wallets among Sui’s identity tools.

Mysten Labs presented those tools as a way for users to retain control of their information while allowing agents to act on their behalf.

Payment infrastructure includes the USDsui stablecoin

On March 4, the Sui Foundation announced its native USDsui stablecoin launch, adding a dollar-linked asset for payments and decentralized finance applications on the network.

According to the launch report, Bridge, a Stripe subsidiary, issues USDsui through its Open Issuance platform. The platform includes enterprise controls and compliance features, while several Sui wallets and financial applications integrated the token at launch.

In the foundation’s description, USDsui supports payments between users, cross-border transfers, and remittances within the Sui ecosystem. The launch report also identified lending, trading, and liquidity provision among its uses across decentralized finance platforms.

For scale, the March report cited more than $111 billion in stablecoin transfers on Sui during January 2026. The figure measured the value of transfers during that month, while the foundation’s October announcement reports the number of interactions processed per second inside offchain tunnels.

U.S. investors have access through SUI staking products

For U.S. investors, February coverage documented the launch of staking ETFs tied to SUI, with Canary Capital’s SUIS trading on Nasdaq and Grayscale’s GSUI listed on NYSE Arca.

According to that Feb. 19 report, both funds began trading on Feb. 18 and held SUI tokens directly. Canary’s product stakes part or all of its holdings, with staking rewards included in the fund’s net asset value.

For Grayscale’s product, the report recorded a 0.35% annual sponsor fee and said all holdings were staked at launch. It described both products as spot funds that hold tokens rather than futures contracts.

On July 22, Coinbase announced SUI staking for customers with a one-token minimum and estimated annual rewards of 1.4% to 3.3%. According to that report, eligible customers could stake through their exchange accounts, with availability dependent on location.

For the October throughput demonstration, Sui named CertiK as the independent auditor. The foundation said the security firm would examine proofs, execution logs, journals, and supporting evidence, with a report expected in the coming days.
